The 11the UBFL Tourney was held over the weekend at Tispaquin Pond in Middleborough.
Throwing out the ceremonial first Pats Perch was the future UBFL team of Luke “Boy Senko Ninja" Almeida and Benjamin David "Fishstick" Degrenier. The newest members of the UBFL family born over the last few weeks. It is true that Fisherman have more boys than girls.....because we need fishing partners. Father son fishing teams rock! Congrats to "Fast Eddie" Almeida and his family and to Mitch "MVD" Degrenier and his family on there new prodigy's.
Our fisherman braved the elements to compete as the conditions were difficult. The wind was howling with gusts up to 30mph.....There were rumors of Dorothy flying by.......The water was low as well leaving the water murky and leaving many of the usual haunts in inches of water. Pre-fishing by our teams revealed that the fishing was hit or miss at best. For the most part the fish were hard to find, were not chasing baits, and some teams found them ...some teams didn't...and some teams barely squeaked by. The big fish (save one) were not to be found as the average fish was small.
Bringing home "The Belt" for the 6th time this year was the Bed Bass & Beyond team of Justin "The Champ" Fish, and Mike "Ike and Mike" Magnani, No surprise here as the cream tends to rise to the top when the conditions are most difficult. The Big Bass of the tourney at 4.6 caught By Mike propelled them to the win with a four fish bag weighing 8.6 OZ. Congrats on another win Boys.
...........another case where the one big fish propels a team to victory.
Second place this week went to the "Pond Rats" team of Rob "Weedman" Ross and Barry "Hammerhead" Bennett. (Personally, I'm surprised that they made it out of bed in time to get to the tourney). The two veteran (because of there age only) anglers........showed off their mastery of the vast array of fishing techniques to eke out a spot on the podium. The blue hairs used the "tie the line to your toe" pattern and left a Senko/trick worm hanging over the side of the boat as they drifted aimlessly all over the lake. It's a mall miracle but they managed to entice five very skinny yet really scrawny 12 inch bass into biting. Their incredible talents helped them bring in the 8.4 oz bag...missing the belt by a small meal for one of them fish....dam. I did notice first hand their use of umbrellas, a portable heater, and what looked to be Hammerhead reading some sort of pornographic material............. and how do you get those reclining beach chairs into a Crawdad?
I would think that this is a pattern that many of the fishermen will mimic......Good job men......Your real trend setters!
Our next Tourney will be on Saturday 9/24. This will be our last scheduled event. This event will be at Bare Hill Pond in Harvard and will run from 7AM to 3PM. This is an open event so all are invited. Please let me know if you plan on attending.[/b]
