The UBFL event on The Sudbury River went off under inclement skies that held off soaking us for the majority of the day. Great fishing weather considering the blue bird weather the UBFL has faced in tourneys this year. The fishing was good as five fish bags were the rule.
Throwing out the first Pats for the Sudbury River Tourney was the "Young Guns" team of Nick "The King" Queen and his brother from another mother, Griffin "Bluegill" Bailey. This in recognition of there consistent loyalty to the UBFL, their infectious enthusiasm, their near 100% attendance in UBFL events, their abilities as fisherman, and their impressive record of high results. Thanks guys!
Taking the bacon for the second consecutive week in a royal ass kicking was the BB&B.....Bed Bass and Beyond, Big Bruising Bass, Big Bass Beat-down team of Mike "Ike and Mike" Magnani (man deserves two fishing names.... he's that good) and Justin "The Champ" Fish. The two forces of the Agua tied on the usual array of gear to outpace the field by and take home "The Belt" with a winning weight of 19lbs 3OZ....WOW...setting a new UBFL record for highest daily five fish bag and besting the old record (19.1)set by Rich "Stratos "Leblanc and Tom "T-Rat" Gangemi at our Peters Pond event.
The tournament tested winners and two time UBFL season champs bested the field with a combination of Jigs and Top Waters fished along the vast weed edges of Fairhaven Bay. "Ike and Mike" waked a Pats Perch around the edges for and was rewarded with a 5.7 and 5.2 bruisers to carry the team to an almost 4lb average..."Ike and Mike" is a big fish magnet. Mike holds the UBFL record with seven times on the big fish board. The "board" is where all 5lb+ fish, and tournament big bass are recorded for posterity. The 5.7 Pig took home the big bass scratch...second week in a row for "Ike and Mike". Three times in a row will establish a new record Mike!
As a bonus for Mike.....He wins the Lunkers big fish tourney on Lake Winthrop Wednesday night fishing solo. This victory/glory coming off two straight victories in the UBFL tourneys.......both in which he caught the big fish....talk about being on a roll
Woo-Hoo....I big cheer for Colin "all fish" Mayo-Fiske and his partner Anthony "Hollywood" Itinerelli. Colin and xxx have been improving every tourney since they started fishing with us last year. The up and comers put together a bag of 13. 5oz. Most of the fish coming on Jigs fished slowly through the weeds. I'm not kidding when I say "Up ad Comers" This teams fish are getting bigger, bringing in nice limits every tourney now and starting to show up at the top of the leader board on a regular basis. They have also become good friends to all of us and regular competitors in our events. All of us were happy to see them walking with some scratch...great job guys!
I am very happy for this team since one of the main goals of the UBFL is that all of us become better fisherman as a result of our competitors sharing winning techniques, and improving through our competitions. Colin has no doubt learned well from others in our league....... and now and more recently, ..his efforts are being rewarded with top of the board finishes. Congrats again Boys!
Of course No report would be complete with out the "Young Guns" team of Griffin "Bluegill" Bailey and Nick "The King" Queen being mentioned......The boys fell one big fish short of the podium and a mere 2 oz's out of second with a total of 13.3 lbs. "Bluegill" and "The King" tossed everything in the box to coax their limit into the boat ....I'm sure a Pats Perch and a Senko played into the bag. A stadium applause is needed here since it's certainly not their looks that catch the bass. In fact...these guys have to fish doubly hard because their looks actually scare the fish away... very very impressive fishing guys!!!..... (all things considered :-/).........not failing to mention..... the "Young Guns" reached the podium for what seems like the 115 straight time.
WE HAD TWO NO SHOWS - NO CALLS....... Not good guys
Our next tourney is scheduled for Next Sunday at A-1. We have a full field for this one with a wait list...I'll be sending out an email soon with the list of teams signed up
