Hi Guys,

I am getting a kayak very soon and have a question about mounting some accessories.

Where do you guys think the best place to mount the traducer is? I would like to be able to remove it and use it on my Jon boat so nowhere permanent.

Also, in your opinion, where is the best place to mount a gopro to get good footage. I have a head strap for mine, but the camera gets sort of shaky at times. I would like somewhere more stable.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I have my transducer mounted on a piece of PVC and attached by a bolt and big wingnut that goes through the side of my yak. It pivots into the water or up for when I'm beaching or to clear weeds off it. I haven't seen anyone else do it this way but I set it up on my 1st yak and really liked it so I did it the same way when I got my new yak.I use my fish finder ice fishing and take it off each year just by cutting a few zipties.I'll post a pic for ya.

As long as the kayak you are getting is plastic you can use plumbers putty to mount the transducer inside the hull. then it is easily removable. Just make sure there is no air bubbles between the transducer and the hull.
Mounting a GoPro should be able to mount anyplace. depends on the kayak and mounting areas, just make sure it isn't in the way of your casting.

I have a FeelFree Lure 11.5 and Ascend 128T. I use a scupper mount for the Lure and made my own through hull mount for the 128T.

Scroll down this thread to see how I did it:

I don't have a GoPro, but RAM Mounts has about anything and everything to mount electronics on nearly anything.

Good luck with your project.

I like the head mounts for the GoPro. You're never going to get footage that isn't a bit shaky in a kayak, whether it's mounted on your head or chest or on a pole mount.

But in my opinion, the head mount is best because you're in control of it. You just have to teach yourself to not move your head around so much.

My suggestion would be to search YouTube. There are countless tutorials on every kind of mount you could think of. Smile

Thanks for the input guys.

purpleturkey - I like your setup for the transducer mount. Does it ever feel like it turns the kayak when your paddling? That's the main complaint I have read with mounting transducers to an arm.

kenwood - To be honest I actually haven't even tested out the head mount on my kayak, I just figured it would be shaky. I'll give it a test trying to keep my head more still before I buy any mounts. Hopefully, that works out so I don't need to buy or build anything.

Check this out. Highlights from last year, all head-mount POV.

Gsantos. Ya originally I did feel a bit of drag on the one side but after a few trips my paddling compensated for it and I don't even notice it anymore.

Kenwood - That footage is really good. I'll just stick with head mount and work on keeping my head more still.

Purpleturkey - You sold me, but I am a lazy do-it-yourselfer so I went with the RAM arm. People seem to really like it so we will see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am on the northshore and hoping after tomorrow we'll have more open water to test everything out. Wet lines!
