So I decided to go to White Pond in Concord today, and there was a sign that said there was a toxic algae bloom going on and the pond was closed. I've just been wondering how that will affect the fishing in the future, and if it is something that people should be worried about.
Usually it is the same ponds that have them year after year. Bog ponds are highly susceptible. Fish don't seem to mind. The key word is toxic. Can cause skin irritation to people and can be fatal to dogs if ingested. There are a couple of area ponds that I fish and once they are in full bloom I will fish elsewhere.
Dang I didn't know Jamaica pond had it too.. It's alright though I just hope the blooms end quick though. I heard they get worse as the summer goes on.
