I'm going to change the hooks out on my Spooks and add split rings, looking for some opinions from anyone else who may have done so. What style and brands, etc. I was planning on using standard shank trebles for the Spooks, any reason to try short shanks here? Was looking at Mustad KVDs...

I wont fish a spook unless I change out the hooks and add split rings. You cant go wrong with any quality replacement hook but IMO the best hook out there are Owners. The st36 http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Stinger_Treble_Hook_Black_Chrome_ST-36/descpage-OST36BC.html or my favorite the st41 http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_Stinger_Treble_Hook_2X_Black_ST-41/descpage-OSH2XBC.html

make sure you do not go too big on the replacement hooks. Too much weight can effect the action of the bait. I replace the stock hooks with the same size Owners. By adding the split ring those hooks hang a bit lower and can swing more freely and that increases your hookups.

unless a hard bait has good hooks, i always swap them out. i use mustad KVD triple grip hooks. they're a little different than those owners b/c they have an inward bend to help make it harder for the fish to throw the lure.

Excellent, thanks for the info guys. Any idea what size split rings you've used? Was thinking these in a #3...

Great split ring. I would go with at least a #4
