I've had many good days on the Chicopee River. Depending on where you go in to fish it you can catch: Small and Largemouth Bass, Perch, Shad and Stripers when they are in the area.

Where do you go, can you put a canoe in?

Very few boat access points for the entire length of the river in Chicopee. Red Bridge in Ludlow has a launch and can be located on Mass Wildlife Pond Maps page. That's about the safest bet. That spot isn't so bad in a kayak or boat with a motor. If you're in a canoe, your best bet is to have a second paddler, as the current can get strong there.

You can also fish from the CT river launch in Chicopee and paddle upriver for a bit to the center of Chicopee, but that's a sketchy area and there's been at least one report of a fisherman being stabbed in 2012, so be careful. (Link was on WWLP Springfield news, but was taken down.)

It's a shame, the river is scenic and good to fish, but if you don't know someone that owns property on its banks, it's high-risk and nearly impossible to fish.

And for species: Carp, Largemouth, Smallmouth, Northerns, Yellow & White Perch, Bullhead, Stripers, Shad & Channel Cats in the lower part of the Chicopee that connects to the Connecticut River.
