There was one nice Mercury 5hp for $400 but the guy hasn't gotten back to me. Everything else is from the Nixon administration or expensive enough that I might as well buy new.

Check with Matt at Hanks Marine. I bought a really nice 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke from them for less than half the price of a new one and it was like new.

You'll be popping wheelies with a 9.9!

Motors are still repairable and run strong. I have a 6 hp 1973 one that starts first pull and pushes my 12 foot fiberglass game fisher really well. Don't count them out because they are old.

Matt has a 5hp 2 stroke for $350. It's a 1996 Force. Says they're owned by Mercury. What does everyone think? My primary purpose is the ability to get back to the ramp in a headwind. Secondary is to move around a lake more easily. I will never be towing inner tubes and the like. Leicester is a drive for me so I want to have my mind all but made up before I go.

There's also this little beauty in Wrentham. 2001 8hp Mercury 2 stroke short shaft. Pretty much ideal, if not a bit heavy. How's the price seem to you guys?
