Well, with the temps they are forecasting for the next week or so I had to give in and accept the fact that the open water season is over for me! 
Took all the gear out of the car and put it away. What made it even tougher is that I was getting into some decent fish this past week. The ice gear is on standby! Really hope I don't have to use it

i went to check to see how much rain got in my boat through the cover and a big bushy tail was hanging over the side 1' from my face. it was dark out and then i just saw a pair of eyes staring at me. the thing just sat there chewing squirrel guts and wouldn't get out. i let it eat all night so i wouldn't have to clean up after it haha.

I think some ponds will have enough of an ice base by the weekend. In my opinion a rain/snow mix would be better for ice making because it would freeze over easier. I don't think that will be the case though in my neck of the woods. We should have snow around here as the temps on Saturday will be below 20 and on Sunday around 25.
