I fished Spy pond back in 2012, the summer my first son was born. My brother and I like to pond hop for bass, and at the time i was going through the old masswildlife.gov website, back when it was useful and easy to navigate. I remember the lost of local ponds they had with easy to read maps and detailed info of each body of water.
So I came across Spy pond, and we took the canoe out for a day trip. We didn't catch anything, saw a lot of big carp and some bass. I remember I was in awe not how clear the water was. I also remember there were a lot of weeds.
It looked to me to be a fish holding paradise, especially with the fact that at one point it was stocked with Tiger muskies....
Anyway, like I said, we ended up getting skunked, but it was a bright blue sky dawn in gin clear water, so it was tough fishing conditions.
I woukd go back and try again. I didnt like that there were signs everywhere warning that you shouldn't even touch the water because of how contaminated it was.
Sad to think we pay $30 a year just for access to fish ponds like these, and alot of them are polluted and have consumption advisories, or in the case of Spy, you shouldn't even come in contact with the water.
