I am catching a bunch of fish in a very small local pond some approaching 6 pounds, confirmed 5.5 and a bunch of upper 4's . Wondering if I am catching the same group of fish over and over again. So this makes me curious and thinking about some sort of tagging system like the ALS for stripers . Any suggestions ?

Thanks
Anthony

just weigh them and take pictures, you can tell by the spot patterns

Yeah, you can usually tell by photos. Also, a lot of old fish in small ponds have a good number of hook wounds. If you can remember where you hooked a good fish you can usually see a scar.

I have done that before. I used a very small quick tie go though its lip bone like a ring. Tighten it and cut the loose end.

Is tagging fish legal in mass?

I wonder how like putiing a rubber band around the tail would work.

If the fish kept growing, the band could cause a barrier for the growing tissue and the tail would start to grow around it. I've seen rainbows tagged with a little numbered tag attached to the dorsal fin. It's kinda hard to explain exactly what the tag looked like

Rubber band will rotten after awhile.
