Hello Yall,

So our baseball team is making our annual Spring trip down to Florida to begin our season. Myself and one other coach are looking to get out and fish here and there. We dont have much free time at all but will be in the Port Charlotte area. Has anyone ever fished down that way on vacation and know of any locations we should look into. On a map there are ponds and bodies of water every where.

Also our idea is to pack a small tackle box, and just a reel in our carry on and buy cheap poles down there and just leave them down there so we don't need to travel with too much.

If anyone knows anywhere to try and hit that would be awesome. Or if you have any ideas best way to travel with gear and not have to pay for extra baggage.

I can't help you with the fishing location aspect, but maybe on the traveling part.

They may take away hooks and lures on carry on, and will definitely take away pliers, scissors, etc. I'd throw the reels in your carry ons, and throw a small selection of lures and hooks in a box in you checked bag. Shouldn't weigh more than half a pound.

Your rod idea is probably the best option. But depending on the rods you were planning to buy and leave there, it may be more cost effective to just ship some 2 piece rods down to where you're staying in a long rectangular box. Then ship them back up when you leave. Again, if you were going to buy really cheap ones, then buying them there and leaving them might be better.

What species are you looking for? Bass, or something saltwater?

Also, what team are you a a coach on? Most little league teams don't have spring training in Florida, so possibly a higher level team?

Why not purchase something like a Zebco Ready tackle combo

If you get a poster/map tube you can protect the rods in that for cheap.

36inch poster tubes
