Looking for a new froging reel. What brand would you recommend to get the job done at a reasonable price. Also, what do you think is the best gear ratio for this situation?
What do you consider reasonable? I use a Lews bb1 pro speed spool. I believe it's a 7.1 ratio. I got it on eBay for 165. It's awesome. Casts 65# braid with a spro popping frog a mile. No trouble in thick pads.

I use the exact same reel, with a 7 foot medium heavy rod. Great setup!
I'd check out an 8:1 13 fishing concept reel, TW has them. I have one on a St. Croix Legend Frog rod and I love it. Using heavy braid as well, no issues.

I am the process of upgrading my froggin gear too. It really comes down to personal preference and how you fish a frog. Your reel should be high speed, I wouldn't recommend anything lower than 7.1 ratio. You want to pick up line quick when you miss, and put fish in the boat as fast as you can. I just picked up a Dodyns Saavy micro guide Mag Heavy/xfast tip for my frog rod. I want a light rod because it usually in my hand all day and something with a lot of backbone.
