I use a uni to uni splice to connect my mainline (braid) to my backing (mono) and to connect my leader (fluro) to my mainline (braid).

However, that knot tends to catch the line on the spool as it comes off, and doesn't go through the guides very well.

I see the reverse and albright are popular for making these connections. Do they make smaller knots that tend to catch the line less and go through the guides easier?

In the past this really hasn't mattered, because I only use enough backing to cover the spool once, and I don't use long leaders.

However, I'm going to probably start using more mono on backing to save money on braid, and on the off chance the line is taken up to or past the knot I want to avoid these problems.

Thanks,
Patrick

I've been using the slim beauty knot for my braid to leader connection. I've been using it for a few years with no knot failure. It goes through the guides well too.
