It would be a whole lot easier to believe the ney sayers if they did not have profile picture of themselves holding up Largemouth bass that look to be over five pounds.

Just sayin Wink

I wouldn't call a 5lbs bass a trophy bass. No doubt it is a good fish but for the states that have a serious bass population 5lbs never comes close to a trophy fish. People go to Florida, Texas and California to go trophy LMB fishing.

I agree with Bobby. If you gave me the option of going bass fishing anywhere in the US. Mass would not even be in the top 10. I would choose California, Texas and Florida like Bobby said, then pick any on the other southern states like Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Oklahoma. Heck Mass is 3rd at best in New England behind Maine and Vermont. NH might be able to put you in 4th

I agree with everything said in this thread.

That being said, answering the original question I may be convinced to say Yes, MAFF has had some impact on Fishing Tourism in MA. (albeit pretty small)

I am willing to bet that some of the Trip Reports posted here have convinced out of staters to come to MA just to Fish.

Boooooooooonnnnnnnneeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd take NH over MA any day. i don't see many people specifically targeting MA for fishing over other states.

9.4 was caught in ma. ..........just Sayn any I have fished Fla. Oklahoma Texas and Arkansas even Alaska

Southern states have a chance to catch 9+lber everytime they go out. Mass that is once maybe twice n lifetime bass. We have to work a lot harder for our trophies up here. Those of us that fish up here already the challenge is a big part of why we go out. That and not knowing when that day will come.

Not at all. By comparison, NEFK attracts for more anglers and tourists from across the country to MA in a single event (striper shootout, salem ma) than all the events combined by MAFF; as does, I would guess, many of the local pond youth fishing events. I think the difference is the level of professional/structure of those events. MAFF events, at least based on the postings on MAFF, seem much more amateur and thus less attractive IMHO.

I really enjoy NEKF; it's a great group of people and the Shootout is an awesome weekend that attracted 180 participants this year. BTW, the Shootout is their only formal tournament and there is no prize money, just recognition for the winners and raffle prizes for most of the entrants. Entry fees go to charity. All other events are informal meetups where we get together to fish and have a cookout with the longest fish getting to keep some homemade trophy for the year, like the Stanley Cup.
