Went on Cochituate last night (8-7-13) after work. Fished the North Lake near the cartopper launch. Ended up catching 3 Larrys, 2 pickerel, and a crappie, all on the same lure: small hinged rapala, pickerel imitation, 0-2 ft depth. It swims just above the weeds.
The bite started slow, but then picked up around 6:45pm.
The first significant fish was the pickerel, which hit with ferocity after a well placed cast just off a big log and near a lot of weeds. It put up a great fight and was the best pickerel I've ever caught. It was between 26-28 inches and had beautiful color to it!
I caught another smaller pickerel on the very next cast. Then came the crappie I thought was a bass. I don't think I've ever caught a crappie before as I've never targeted them, but it hit the same lure as I was targeting more pickerel. It was about 15-16 inches long.
Then I caught a nice Larry just before dusk to end the trip.
Enjoy the pics!
