This seems like a bit of good news. Glad the Charles is really starting to make a comeback (or at least so it seems). Personally didn't know much about Shad, but after a quick googling I'm definitely interested now. Hope some of these little guys survive and multiply!

According to wikipedia:
Shad is a type of fish, much valued as a sport fish. The male shad is an excellent game fish, showing multiple jumps and an occasional end-over-end; it has been called a "freshwater tarpon".

Anybody have much experience in fishing for these guys? Good eatin?

The shad stocking has been going on for the past 6 years in the Charles. They do the stocking in Waltham. The shad return from the ocen after 5 or 6 years to spawn. Last year I believe was the 1st year they returned. The released shad were marked so they could be identified as the stocked shad. Some years they stocked as many as 600,000.

The returning shad should be approximately 6 pounds. I have never fished for them but I saw a show on "On The Water" they are great fighting fish...
