so ive been scouring the web to see if store bought fish like smelt or mackerel is legal to use as dead bait in ma but cant seem to find anything , ive seen threads on the subject in new york and read that its legal there as long as being frozen isnt the sole means of preservation (ie; salted before frozen ,ect is ok but just frozen fresh not ok i guess it has something to do with transmitting vhs?) so ultimately im gonna either send an email or a phone call to fish and game to be positive but not sure when ill have the time so figured id ask if anyone has used store bought dead baits for pike in ma before. id love to drop a big smelt down threw the ice rather than the mesely 5 inch shiners i bought from the bait shop. any help is appreciated
