So, been a few since I have posted and it isn't because I didn't want too..just been all over the place lately.

This past Sunday we had the Carp derby at Blackstone, I'm not gonna go into detail cause well..I had no luck at all Smile. Though to be fair around 25 fish were caught in a few hour period, just not by me. Was a good day despite the threat of rain all day, good turn out and a lot of fun.

Today however I returned to Blackstone, this time in the river itself, near the top canal gate. It is a beautiful location and has been begging me to fish it since I started coming to this area, this is the first time I got around to it though.

So after I set up I baited up and tossed my lines out, put the coffee on the fire and sat back to enjoy the morning, when out of nowhere..

a 13 lb mirror, now thats a good start to the day. Excited by this I hurried to rebait and recast. Half a cigarette later *ZZZZZZZZZ*

a 6lb common carp, again not too shabby a fish.

I recast out and hit a dead zone, probably 2 hours and not a second glance at my poles. Then suddenly one of them starts slowly creeping line out. Not running just kind of meandering...not a good sign if you ask me. Carp like to run with food, this slow movement is typical more of a good size turtle...

Sure enough, you can see him sticking his head out of the water looking at me and taunting me to take the hook out...which I did, and he wandered off. This one was only about 15 lbs...I have caught a snapping turtle here that I weighed at just over 48 lbs. Yikes!

After i redid my hooks, the turtles have a way of really bending the heck out of them Sad I was back in business. With the hungry turtle gone I hooked into a few more fish over the afternoon;

When it was all said and done I got into about 5 fish, biggest at 13 or so lbs and smallest at 4.5 lbs.

Not at all a bad day. I have a delivery from Wacker baits coming tomorrow which means Friday I'll be heading back to try my luck again. Anyway thanks for reading, good fishing to all.

Wanted to add a bit more information as I got my package from Wacker Baits yesterday, and of course hit the water today Smile

of note I used maple peas that I soaked all yesterday then boiled for bout 30 minutes and let cool.

Tossed a few handfuls of these out and used 2 on a size 6 circle hook on about a 12 inch lead from the weight.

Next rod was hooked up on some boilies that I hade made prior to showing up as well, with the Preferred Base Mix from Wacker and some of my own flavors.

Using a knot-less knot or hair rig.

Put my camp together and settled in...

Seems like a lot of work but when you hook into these beautiful fish

it makes it all worth while. Today was a crazy day, averaging 3 fish an hour or so...22 total fish weighing from 2 lbs. to 17 lbs.

So if your into carp fishing or looking for a fish that is one great fighter pound for pound. Blackstone river and canal is really hopping right now, and it will only get better as these fish continue eating and trying to fatten up for the winter ahead.
