Smallmouth Fishing in Merrimack

I am coming up from south florida next weekend, and was wondering if anyone can point me where to fish from shore for smallies. I was up there by the merrimack the weekend after Irene and it was a wash out with the high water on the rivers. Really want to catch my first smallmouth so if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
