sure live shiners will catch em. most days you cant beat live bait if thats your thing. i think sooner or later though you will find there are so many other artificial baits that work well and add more to the experience that you will want the challenge of going after them that way instead of just bait and wait fishing. Using live shiners also seems to increase the chances of the hook being swallowed and damaging the fish's vital organs so if you are a catch and release fisherman/gal then be aware of this.
on a side note....im in the service industry also and yes...absolutely yes....the hrs mess with you. some days im waiting for the sun to come up so i can head out and fish while other days i am unable to get out of bed before noon to go out. can be frustrating for sure. good luck. take care. eric

I personally would head a few minutes up the road and work the Putnamville shore line wall off of rt. 35. A good mile of shore access with both largemouth and smallmouth.
