I hear NIP has a few hazards since the deepest part is only 6ft. Denny and I are getting out sunday but not until afternoon, so we cant drive 2 hours we when only have 5 hours to fish but good luck! I hopn maybe lake shirely?

I fish the Nip regularly and YES- there are a number of hazards (submerged rocks) and none are marked. It'a actually worse when the water is high, during summer many become visible.
As you leave the boat ramp, you will see a cove to the right, it connects to the back side of the lake. There are some rocks mid-way down the right shoreline. Also, you will see a hump, barely visible, at the middle entrance to that cove, there are some big rocks around it so use caution.

On the back side (I reccomend going out around the island to the right, past the cove mentioned above), as you pass a large totally visible rock to your left, if you look straight across to the opposite shore, you will see another small cove- loaded with submerged rocks! The rest of the back side is fine; the area to the left as you leave boat ramp is ok as well, no rocks, just shallow (3-6 ft).

Hope this helps and possibly saves someone from some aggravation!

Great information! I will not be taking my boat there! No fish is worth loosing my lower unit. I believe i can fish the tourney from My cousins G3 flat bottom?

I was there yesterday. the water was 6-7 ft 47* The water was beond stained it wmotored as the darkest water ive ever ben in. I motored out to the left twards the left side of the island. I had my engine trimed up as far as it woulg go and still move the boat. ounce I got out i started trolling fishing the brush line and taking it slow. The water visibility was nil I spent about 4 hrs out there and threw everything I could think of and not so much as a nibble. I did end up drifting into a rock when i was hugging the back left side of the island ( no damage just redirected me w/ a light wind) but the dangers are out there. and the prob. is its too late by the time you notice your in trouble. IF YOU DONT KNOW THE LAKE. DONT TAKE UNNECCESSARY CHANCES take it slow. the fish will wait.

I'm going to stay local and hit Boon Sat & Sun afternoon. Hopefully the afternoon sun will warm the shallows and the fish cooperate.

Yeah, the Nip is very stained and the rocks are impossible to see until you are on top of them. I recommend trimming those lower units up and putt-putting around the lake if you've never been there before.

We didn't have too much luck last year around this time at Boon.
We have high hopes this year. You have to watch out for stumps in the lower basin by the ramp.
Cheers!

From what I've seen Chuck can catch fish anywhere anytime! No pressure Chuck. Good luck at Boone. Very Happy

We are actually not gonna go to the Nip tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice though! We are gonna head down there next weekend.

We are gonna hit a local spot that I went to earlier this week.
