personally I use braid about 90% of the time. if I run into super clear water I will use 17lb floro but I don't remember the last time I needed to do that where I have been fishing. Am I missing any bites because of the braid? maybe but I get bit enough to keep me happy and I never break off any fish.
I agree with Rich on this one. I don't have all the rods and reels that you big boys have, but I do spool braid on 5 of my 6 rods and fluro on the 6th. 99.9% of the water I've fished this year has been very stained, so I don't think the braid has been a factor in avoided strikes.
Def braid all the way. Floro gets nicked up in places that you wouldn't expect way into your spool on backlashes etc. Feel a real nice thump to to drop the hammer and bink!! Bye bye bass jig and 30 ft of line. No thanks. You can always tie on a leader if you need it
I simply don't like fluro's memory to use it as a main line, it makes birds nests hell to get out. But I love to use it for leaders. So as Roger and Rich have said, the places I fish don't have the water clarity that would make me use it except when I'm fly fishing.
I used to use fluro leads, but really did not notice a difference in hookup ratios, so just keep it simple now with one line and no chance of connector knots failing. Just what I like to do that works for me.
