Help: Would like to start fishing in lily pads, weeds but not sure how. I like to use rubber worms for just about everything so how should I hook them, Texas rig? also thinking it might be good to fish the top? Just bought a Nano Kroker Frog.
Thx in advance!

You can fish with any plastics. As long you can cover your hook in the plastic but enough to set the hook for any fish that attack it. texas rig can be used. (I personally prefer no weight on it. Just fish freestyle with plastics.)

Frog is one of easier and effective to use for lily pads.

If the weeds are thick (like in your photo) you will probably need a bullet weight on your texas rig to punch it through the top layer.

That frog should work well. Just walk it back across the pads, when it hits an open spot let it sit there for 5-10 seconds, and then give it a small jerk. If this doesn't produce fish after a while adjust your retrieve speed up or down.

I'm am a frog fisher-girl.. I havent had success in dropping anything with weight into the pads.. my best catches are on zoom horny toads... you can rip them across the top and off the pads, kicking all the way... or you can jump them over the pads and let them fall as they hit the water a slower retrieve.. both work great.. less luck with hollow body frogs but they do look cool... if using them, hop them like a frog.. let them stop in the holes and float for a good 10-15 sec.. it's hard to be patient but thats when they bite..
good luck.. nothing like a top water frog hit !

Braided line cuts through the weeds and lily pads easier.
Top water hollow belly frog, buzzbait, swim jig, weighted texas rig, weightless lizard

Zoom fluke and weightless senko- these two I know are often just used in good sized pockets or outer weed edges

Hope this helps!

Braided line, texas rigged senko w/ bullet weight to punch through pads or weightless if there are any openings in the pads, or a hollow body frog are your best bets for fishing in or on the pads/weeds.

I used hollowbody frog last night in very weedy spot and absolutely crushed it. 10 fish total, 6 on frogs and 4 on senko. Biggest was a hair under 3.5lbs. I am addicted to using the frog and seeing the bass explode on topwater.

Good Luck!

Looks like topwater frog heaven! Fished a spot a few weeks ago that looked exactly like that, produced 3 bass in the 3-4lb range on topwater frogs.

Just remember, when you see the hit, do a two-count before you set the hook.

Your technique sounds interesting. Are you using a texas rig on those bad boys? What colors work best for you?

with the zoom toad always texas rig.. I use trokar hooks with the screwtop or zoom hooks.. color depends on the pond and the day.. blue flake with chartruse feet catches a ton but more pickerel than the other colors.. my favorite is the yellow and black swirl or the hard to find tomato red.. the ponds I tend to fish are really stained so the natural colors dont do all that well.. I use BP paddle feet on windy days, they splash more on the surface.. for hollow body frogs I put 2 glass beads in their butts to rattle a little.. but i catch less on those than the zoom toads.. enough talk... I'm going fishing... i'll be out all day tomorrow.. somewhere on the south shore wink wink. Wink
