This is a relatively small, 68-acre, warm water pond located between Cooks Corner and Route 202. There are no formal boat launching facilities, but access is possible off Pond Street. The pond is characterized by brown watercolor with a transparency of two feet. The mean and maximum depths are five and six feet respectively. The 3.6 miles of shoreline are approximately 20% developed. Aquatic vegetation covers about 60% of the surface area. The bottom is a mixture of mud and gravel. Fish Populations: pumpkinseeds, bluegill, bullhead, black crappie, largemouth bass, white suckers and creek chubsuckers. The dominant predator is the chain pickerel.
The pond is primarily a pickerel pond, but largemouth bass do fairly well here. There is a large forage base of large golden shiners, which is reflected in above average growth rates of bass. Pickerel display below average growth rates. Forge Pond was stocked with northern pike fingerlings in 1987, so there is always the possibility of hooking one of these big predators.
