Dec 12th Pig
What a fish. This one really topped off my year. To get my biggest one of the year in mid Dec is pretty awesome. I had brought my dog Penny down to one of my favorite lakes so she could bomb around the woods while I wet a line. I started out with a jig, and on my second cast, I got hung up in a tree and broke off. It broke off pretty easy, so I knew my line was old and week. I didnt bring my tackle bag with me, so I called Penny, and we headed back to the truck to go home. When I got to the truck Penny looked at me, as to say, "thats it?". I felt bad because she wanted to stay, so I decided to tie on another bait and head back out there. I went with a shakey head with a creature bait. For those of you who know me, you can probably guess which one. I went back to the last spot I was fishing at and got nothing. I moved down the bank to my right about 50 yards and made a cast. I let the lure hit the bottom and started my retrieval. Wham! I feel a nice pop. I set the hook, and my rod bends in half. At first I thought I was on bottom. That was until my line started going from left to right. I fight the fish, not knowing what it is for a few minutes. Then I see its head come out of the water, and I realize what I have on the end of the line. It's also when I realize I'm not gonna be able to swing this fish on shore. I make the decision that I'm gonna have to jump in the water to lip him. Near the bank I jump into about 2 feet of water. It's cold but I didnt feel it at the time. I pull the rod up over my head and lip the fish. Then start screaming like a mad man. Penny is loosing her s***. She doesnt know whats going on. Now I jump on shore and take a few pictures and videos with my phone. I have to say, this is a fish I will never forget. I didn't have a scale, but it had to go between 5 and 6lbs at least. I caught a 6.2 last year, and this fish looked to be just as big.
