Have you fished at Chicopee Reservoir? Be the first to comment on this fishing spot.
This is a small (29 acre) reservoir with a maximum depth of 38 feet and an average depth of nine feet. This is essentially an impoundment of Cooley Brook, which eventually drains into the Chicopee River. The water is very dark colored with a transparency of only three feet. The bottom is gravel and mud, and aquatic vegetation of all types is scant. The reservoir is located at the southern tip of Westover Air Force Base in the city of Chicopee. The closest major road is Route 291, which is less than one mile to the east of the reservoir. Exit 6 of the Massachusetts Turnpike is two miles to the south of the reservoir. Seasonal fishing access is through a Chicopee State Park gate, and there is an entrance fee (unless you have a D.E.M season park pass). No boats are permitted. Only shoreline fishing is allowed, but all of it is open to angling. Fish Populations: largemouth bass, golden shiner, pumpkinseed, white sucker and brown bullhead.
The reservoir is stocked in the spring and fall with trout - mostly rainbow trout, but sometimes brown trout when they are available. A healthy bass population provides excellent bass fishing.
